Gastroparesis Awareness Week
WHEREAS, gastroparesis is a chronic illness that affects more than 5 million people in the United States; yet is little known to those in our state; and
WHEREAS, gastroparesis is “paralysis of the stomach” which causes sometimes debilitating pain, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and can lead to serious complications such as malnourishment, dehydration, extreme weight loss, and overwhelming fatigue; and
WHEREAS, there is little awareness, no known cure, and few effective treatment options or medications; and
WHEREAS, more research, improved medications, additional treatment options, and better support to provide hope for the gastroparesis patients;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 9 through 15, 2015 as
Gastroparesis Awareness Week
in the State of Alabama.
