Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity Day

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded on January 1, 1869, on the campus of Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, in direct opposition to hazing and remains committed to that ideal today; and

WHEREAS, the Beta Theta chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity was chartered by the High Council on September 18, 1890, and is the 27th charter granted by the High Council, and it has been continuously on Auburn’s campus since then; and

WHEREAS, members of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Auburn University have served in our nation’s military to protect and preserve freedom at home and abroad in every war since 1890 and during peacetime as well; and

WHEREAS, members of Beta Theta chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity have served as captains of industry, business, medicine, law, politics, and community service across the state of Alabama, and around the world for 125 years; and

WHEREAS, the Knights of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Auburn University have contributed to the betterment and well-being of Auburn University in countless ways down through the years; and

WHEREAS, the men of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Auburn University have led in their homes and communities with the guiding ethical values of Love, Honor, and Truth:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 18, 2015, as

Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity Day

in the State of Alabama.
