Charcot-Marie-Tooth Awareness Month
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is a severe medical condition that affects approximately 150,000 Americans and 1,900 Alabamians; and
WHEREAS, CMT is the most commonly inherited peripheral neuropathy disorder affecting one in 2,500 people worldwide; and
WHEREAS, muscle atrophy in the extremities coupled with ataxia, chronic pain, overwhelming fatigue and loss of sensation are symptoms of CMT; and
WHEREAS, the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association’s strategy to accelerate research initiative is dedicated to conducting research and development of treatments and ultimately the cure; and
WHEREAS, Alabamians are encouraged to seek medical assistance before deformities and nerve damage occur:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 2015, as
Charcot-Marie-Tooth Awareness Month
in the State of Alabama.
