National Square Dance Month

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, the square dance has enjoyed a long and rich history as the official folk dance of Alabama; and

WHEREAS, there are thousands of dancers in dozens of square dance clubs in communities throughout Alabama; and

WHEREAS, square dancing provides the benefits of healthy exercise and social interaction as people of all backgrounds and ages come together to share in the fun of participating in one of the most traditional American dance forms; and

WHEREAS, National Square Dance Month is celebrated all throughout the United States during the month of September; and

WHEREAS, Alabama is proud to be home to a vibrant square dancing community that makes vital contributions to the cultural fabric of our State:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 2015 as

National Square Dance Month

in the State of Alabama.
