Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Day

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, ovarian and gynecologic cancer are among the leading cancer killers of women in the United States and more than 80,000 will be diagnosed , and more than 30,000 women will die from these diseases this year; and

WHEREAS, the good health and well-being of women in our state are enhanced by increased awareness of ovarian and gynecologic cancers and their symptoms and treatments; and

WHEREAS, it is critical for women, physicians and all healthcare providers to recognize the risk factors and symptoms of ovarian and gynecologic cancers and to remember the importance of early detection in preventing and treating this diseases; and

WHEREAS, continued progress in the battle against ovarian and gynecologic cancers requires increased awareness and education; and

WHEREAS, it is also crucial that all women in the State of Alabama take an active role in learning the symptoms and risk factors associated with ovarian and gynecologic cancers, developing healthy habits, and undergoing regular medical examinations so that any occurrence of this diseases may be detected in its early and treatable stages; and

WHEREAS, groundbreaking research into the causes, detection and treatment of ovarian and gynecologic cancers is currently being performed at medical centers located in Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the State Capitol will be lit in teal, the designated awareness color for ovarian and gynecologic cancers, on Friday, September 4th, 2015:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 1st, 2015 as

Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Day

in the State of Alabama.
