Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, prostate cancer is the number one cancer among men, and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in the United States; and

WHEREAS, approximately 220,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, and almost 30,000 will die from it; and

WHEREAS, African-American men, with a family history of prostate cancer, or men exposed to Agent Orange are at highest risk; and

WHEREAS, prostate cancer not only affects men but also affects their family and friends; and

WHEREAS, early stage prostate cancer usually has no symptoms, and is usually treatable if detected early; and

WHEREAS, men who have prostate cancer and are educated about the value of early detection will be more likely to have the cancer detected when it is treatable; and

WHEREAS, men who discuss treatment options with their healthcare provider and with their family are more likely to make good treatment decisions:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 2015, as

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

in the State of Alabama.
