Small Business Owner Appreciation Day

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, the economic engine of American capitalism in Alabama and the United States is small business; and

WHEREAS, the cities, towns, and counties throughout the State of Alabama have been the home for thousands of small businesses over the history of our state; and

WHEREAS, these small businesses with the sale of their goods and services meet the basic needs of our fellow Alabamians and citizens across the United States as well as people throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, these small businesses with the sale of their goods and services provide the essential tax base for the operation of our local and state governments; and

WHEREAS, the cities, towns, and counties throughout Alabama have been and will continue to be home to small businesses which have grown to state, national and world-wide recognition; and

WHEREAS, small businesses create three out of four jobs. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are approximately 400,000 small businesses in Alabama; and

WHEREAS, in September 2014, Governor Robert Bentley announced the creation of the Alabama Small Business Commission to promote policies that will assist new business start-ups and the expansion of existing small businesses; and

WHEREAS, Alabama supports our local small businesses that create jobs, boost our economy and preserve our neighborhoods:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 5, 2015, as

Small Business Owner Appreciation Day

in the State of Alabama.
