School Bus Safety Week
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the 2015 National School Bus Safety Week theme is “Be Smart, Safety First!”; and
WHEREAS, the safety record for school bus transportation exceeds that of all other modes of travel; and
WHEREAS, each school day throughout the United States, more than 25 million students are transported more than 5.7 billion miles to and from school; and
WHEREAS, the transportation of the students involves approximately 480,000 school bus drivers, whose primary concern is the safety of their important passengers; and
WHEREAS, in Alabama, more than 366,000 students are transported to school and home again daily by more than 9,500 buses; and
WHEREAS, the drivers of these buses travel almost 85 million route miles each year in Alabama and have achieved an enviable safety record; and
WHEREAS, Alabama’s school bus driver certification programs, careful maintenance of buses and regular inspections are primary factors in achieving this outstanding safety record:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 19 through 23, 2015 as
School Bus Safety Week
in the State of Alabama.
