Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge Week

Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, in 1975 the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge resulted from a federal grant provided by the U.S. Fire Administration to develop and validate a job-related physical performance examination for firefighters; and

WHEREAS, this “Competition with a Purpose” seeks to encourage and reward firefighter fitness while it demonstrates the profession’s rigors to the public; and

WHEREAS, while wearing full bunker gear and the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), pairs of competitors simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a series of tasks including climbing a 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. “victim” as they race against themselves, their opponent, and the clock; and

WHEREAS, the Firefighter Combat Challenge is holding its World Finals XXIV here in Montgomery, Alabama:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 19 through 24, 2015, as

in the State of Alabama.
