50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the State of Alabama joins communities in Alabama and across the country in observing the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War – a commemorative 13 year program to honor those who served our country; and
WHEREAS, Alabama pays tribute to the 133,000 Americans who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and the 1,213 who gave their lives; and
WHEREAS, of the names inscribed at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., there are Alabamians listed who made the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, our nation draws inspiration and strength from the heroes who suffered as prisoners of war, and all those who were wounded and still carry the scars of war, both seen and unseen; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alabama renews its commitment to those who answered the country’s call to service in Vietnam, and their families:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 28, 2012 through November 11, 2025, as the commemoration of the
50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War
in the State of Alabama.
