Proclamation

By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, Alabama has the fifth highest adult obesity rate in the nation at 33.5%, fourth highest rate of diabetes, and second highest rate of hypertension (obesity-related health issues) according to The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Obesity Task Force is a volunteer member-based organization of over 200 individuals whose purpose is to work through collaboration, programs, policy and environmental changes to support and promote healthy lifestyles; and

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health as it can help control weight, reduce risk of chronic disease, improve mental health and increase your chances of living longer; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Obesity Task Force has launched a public awareness campaign, Get Moving Alabama, to increase physical activity opportunities, educate residents about physical activity benefits, provide relevant guidelines on physical activity, and identify and connect community resources:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim 2016, as the year to

Get Moving Alabama

in the State of Alabama and encourage all citizens to make physical activity part of their everyday life while experiencing the many outdoor recreation opportunities available in this great state.
