Doctors’ Day

Proclamation

By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS,   the practice of medicine is a special calling, and those who have chosen the medical profession serve their communities with a reverence for human life and individual dignity; and

WHEREAS,  physicians, from the specialist to the general practitioner to those who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces, engage in years of study and training, endure long and unpredictable hours, and often cope with the conflicting demands of work and family life in order to serve the needs of their communities; and

WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has more than 9,500 licensed physicians that serve millions of Alabama residents through private practice, in hospitals, in research and in other health care facilities; and

WHEREAS, each Alabama physician supports nearly 10 jobs and contributes 83,095 jobs statewide, an average $1.3 million in positive economic input, for a total of $11.2 billion in economic impact statewide; and

WHEREAS, physicians serving patients in hospitals and other facilities care for patients during some of their most critical moments in life; and

WHEREAS, research done by physicians produces tremendous breakthroughs in curing and treating life-threatening diseases; and

WHEREAS, students attending Alabama’s medical schools train to become the next generation of leaders in medicine, instilled with the drive to help solve some of the greatest health care challenges facing medicine today; and

WHEREAS, physicians strive every day to improve the health of Alabama’s residents; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim March 30, 2016, as

Doctors’ Day

in the State of Alabama.
