Gastroparesis Awareness Month
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, Gastroparesis is a chronic illness that affects more than 5 million people in the United States; yet, many people are unware of this illness in our state; and
WHEREAS, Gastroparesis is “paralysis of the stomach” which causes sometimes debilitating pain, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and can lead to serious complications such as malnourishment, dehydration, extreme weight loss, and overwhelming fatigue; and
WHEREAS, there is little awareness, no known cure, and few effective treatment options or medications; and
WHEREAS, the Keep Kirsten Kicking organization seeks more research, improved medications, additional treatment options, better support, and hope for the future of all people affected by Gastroparesis; and
WHEREAS, those who suffer from Gastroparesis seek to educate the medical community and the general public regarding the devastating effects of this disorder and promote awareness about this condition for the good of the public’s health:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August, 2016, as
Gastroparesis Awareness Month
in the State of Alabama.
