Love Your Alabama State Parks Day
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Parks System is comprised of 19 state parks that expand nearly 48,000 acres of land and water; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Parks System was first created in 1939 to allow Alabamians the opportunity to enjoy the state’s natural resources; and
WHEREAS, in 2014, the Alabama State Parks System had 4.6 million visitors all over the state of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, studies demonstrate that Alabama gains a significant economic return on the state’s investment in the State Parks System; and
WHEREAS, the State Parks seek to promote enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources and ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy these resources as well; and
WHEREAS, in recognition and in celebration of the contributions of the Alabama State Parks System and the thousands of people employed by the system, September 24th, 2016 will be dedicated in their honor:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 24th, 2016, as
Love Your Alabama State Parks Day
in the State of Alabama.
