National Case Management Week
Proclamation
By the Governor of Alabama
WHEREAS, the history of case management goes back to the early 1900’s when public health nurses and social workers coordinated services throughout the public health sector; and
WHEREAS, by World War II, insurance companies began employing nurses and social workers to assist with the coordination of care for soldiers returning from war; and
WHEREAS, by the 1990’s, the number of case managers rose to more than 100,000; and
WHEREAS, case management is not a profession in itself, but an area of practice within one’s profession; and
WHEREAS, case managers are primarily nurses, social workers and other allied health professionals, such as rehabilitation counselors and therapists; and
WHEREAS, thousands of citizens of the state of Alabama have benefitted from case managers; and
WHEREAS, case managers provide dedicated and compassionate care in an increasingly intense and demanding environment; and
WHEREAS, case managers enrich and improve the health of the residents of our great state:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 9th, through October 15th, 2016, as
National Case Management Week
in the State of Alabama.
